About KiwiBudget and Bryder
KiwiBudget is a New Zealand budgeting app, built in Invercargill. It connects to New Zealand banks read-only through Akahu, builds a budget around your real pay cycle, and tracks bills, goals and KiwiSaver in New Zealand dollars. It launches on iOS and Android on 16 November 2026.
KiwiBudget Limited is owned by Bryder Holdings Ltd (Bryder Group), a small company that builds and runs its own businesses from the bottom of the South Island. We design, build and support everything core in-house, and we plan for the long term.
The role
People come to KiwiBudget to get on top of their money, and some of them will be stressed when they get in touch. You will be the person who answers, by email and live chat through Bryder Connect, our help desk, with WhatsApp coming soon. Fern, KiwiBudget's help assistant, answers the simple questions and hands people to you when they want a person.
You will help with accounts, subscriptions and bank connections, write help articles so people can find answers themselves, and spot patterns so the cause gets fixed, not just the symptom.
What you'll do
- Answer customers through Bryder Connect: email and live chat now, and WhatsApp soon.
- Help with bank connections through Akahu: reconnecting a bank, missing or doubled transactions, and what KiwiBudget can and can't see.
- Help with accounts, signing in and subscriptions on the web, iPhone and Android.
- Write and update help articles in plain New Zealand English.
- Spot patterns in what people ask, and pass bugs to the developer with clear steps to reproduce them.
- Keep your notes tidy, so anyone can pick up a conversation where you left it.
- Know where the line is. We explain how KiwiBudget works, but we don't give financial advice. When someone needs more help, you point them kindly to free services such as MoneyTalks and local budgeting services.
What you'll bring
- Experience helping customers by email, chat or phone, in any industry.
- Kindness and patience, especially with people who are stressed or embarrassed about money.
- Clear, simple writing in New Zealand English.
- Confidence with apps and websites, and the patience to work through a problem step by step.
- Care with privacy and personal information.
- The right to work in New Zealand.
Nice to have
- Experience in banking, a budgeting service, a social service or a contact centre.
- A help desk tool such as Zendesk, Freshdesk or Zoho Desk.
- Knowing your way around iPhone and Android settings.
- Te reo Māori, or another language spoken in New Zealand.
How we work
- Remote, anywhere in New Zealand. Work from home or wherever suits you, as long as you are based in New Zealand.
- Part-time, 20 hours a week, on New Zealand time. The hours are flexible within the working week. We agree a regular pattern together, with enough overlap for calls and questions.
- Small and direct. You report to Jack Ridder, the founder, and work with him day to day. Decisions are quick, and your work is seen.
- Honest with people's money. No hype and no pressure. KiwiBudget doesn't give financial advice, and neither do we, in anything we write or say.
- Equipment: having your own laptop and a reliable internet connection is a plus, but not essential.
Pay and benefits
- $28 an hour, before tax. At 20 hours a week that is $560 a week, before tax.
- KiwiSaver: if you are a member, we add 3.5% of your gross pay on top. That is the legal minimum for employers since 1 April 2026.
- Annual leave: four weeks' paid leave a year after your first 12 months, as the Holidays Act gives.
- Sick leave: 10 days' paid sick leave a year once you have been with us for six months. Unused days carry over, up to 20.
- Public holidays: paid when they fall on a day you would normally work.
- Other leave: bereavement leave and family violence leave, as the law gives.
New leave laws are due to start in 2028. When they do, your leave follows them.
